We want to offer some advice on how<strong> to avoid problems such as visual fatigue and uncomfortable body postures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Distance between TV and sofa: why it is important<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finding the right distance between the TV screen and the sofa is important so as not to <strong>impair your viewing experience <\/strong>and to avoid<strong> visual fatigue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you <strong>sit too close <\/strong>to a large screen, you&#8217;ll see the<strong> pixels of the display, <\/strong>while <strong>sitting too far away <\/strong>will cause you to lose the <strong>immersive experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ideal solution would be to enjoy your screen <strong>without straining your eyes<\/strong> or sitting in uncomfortable positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Finding the ideal situation: two scientific methods<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are <strong>two main schools of thought<\/strong> on calculating the distance between your TV or home theatre and your sofa in the living room,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first is from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smpte.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Society of Motion Picture and Television <\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Engineers<\/strong> <strong>\u00a0(SMPTE)<\/strong>,<\/a><strong> <\/strong>the professional association that brings together technicians from the television and film industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SMPTE recommends <strong>having the farthest viewing angle at 30<\/strong> <strong>&nbsp;degrees<\/strong> and, in order to create the viewing distance, to calculate the diagonal of the screen in inches and divide by <strong>0.6<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer is the <strong>ideal viewing distance, <\/strong>in inches, with a viewing angle of 30 degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US company <strong>THX<\/strong> offers the other school of thought: THX was founded <strong>in 1983 by George Lucas, <\/strong>developer of the <strong>&#8220;THX&#8221; quality certificate <\/strong>applied to professional or domestic audiovisual reproduction systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The THX formula is similar, but <strong>recommends splitting the diagonal of the screen in inches by 0.84<\/strong>&nbsp; to get the viewing distance in inches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These <strong>two calculation methods are developed scientifically, <\/strong>but there are also other ways to calculate an ideal distance from your screen to your sofa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s analyze some other options because it is important <strong>to consider how far or close your sofa is from the TV<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to calculate the right difference between your TV and sofa<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are <strong>some tricks<\/strong> to consider when you are thinking about <strong>buying a TV or a home theatre, <\/strong>or if you just want to <strong>optimize the space in your living room.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Resolution and screen size<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Resolution plays an important role in screen size. In general, <strong>the higher the resolution, the shorter the viewing distance.<\/strong> There a number of options to evaluate, considering you can sit closer to a high-definition TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An HD TV with a resolution of 1080p allows you to sit about one and a half meters away;<\/li><li>With a 4K TV, you can sit about one meter away;<\/li><li>A low-resolution TV will force you to sit very far away.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your <strong>living room is small, <\/strong>we recommend buying a <strong>high-resolution <\/strong>TV so you can place the sofa <strong>a short distance away.<\/strong> Be careful, though: this doesn&#8217;t mean that you always have to sit as close as possible, it just means you can if you need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for <strong>the size of the TV<\/strong>, the length of the screen is measured diagonally, usually in inches. <strong>One inch equals 2.54 cm<\/strong>, so a 40-inch long TV means it measures 1.02 meters from corner to corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considering the viewing angle and<strong> the standard<\/strong> <strong>pixelation<\/strong> <strong>threshold, <\/strong>you should sit at a distance that allows the screen to occupy at least <strong>30 degrees or so of the field of view.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna.jpg\" alt=\"Quale e\u0300 la giusta distanza tra tv e divano in soggiorno-cover\" class=\"wp-image-18366\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna-768x480.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna-400x250.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.sunbell.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Quale-e\u0300-la-giusta-distanza-tra-tv-e-divano-in-soggiorno-interna-480x300.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Size of the living room<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your living room is small it is important to have a high resolution TV\u00a0 whose screen is not too big.\u00a0This will allow you <strong>to sit closer and take up less space<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your living room is large and spacious, you can <strong>place the sofa in the middle of the room<\/strong>, in front of the TV, where the viewing experience is <strong>better<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have a very large screen, and space for the ideal distance calculated by one of the scientific methods, you can also <strong>place the sofa against a wall opposite the TV.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Mounting height<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The height at which the TV will be placed is very important to <strong>determine the distance at which to sit.<\/strong> A <strong>screen that is installed very high up <\/strong>requires <strong>seating that is not too close, <\/strong>so as not to\u00a0 <strong>strain the neck.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The general recommendation is that <strong>the centre of the screen should coincide approximately with the level of the eye.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eye-level of a seated person is <strong>between 85 and 100 cm from the floor<\/strong>, so we recommend you mount the TV to ensure your <strong>eyes are levelled a third of the way down the screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Room lighting<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>lighting in your living room<\/strong> is another factor to take into account.
